Rotaplas is a trans-species plasma product specifically designed to treat Rotavirus infection, a potentially fatal condition.

Rotaplas is Plasvacc's trans-species plasma product specifically designed to treat Rotavirus infection. Rich in gamma globulins, Rotaplas is collected from hyperimmunised donor horses tha reside at the Plasvacc plasma production facility, the only facility of its kind in Australia.

Rotavirus infection strikes young animals such as foals, calves and piglets, especially those with lower than normal levels of gamma globulin. The virus is highly contagious and can be a severe, life-threatening condition. Its mortality rate can be as high as 10% in neglected cases and zero if the infected animals receive appropriate treatment. Conventional treatment consists of intravenous saline fluid infusions, intestinal astringent and antibiotics over an extended period as well as isolation of the animal.

While this condition is completely curable, conventional treatment is labour intensive and utimately costly.

Rotaplas is a trans-species plasma product that can be used to shorten the Rotavirus treatment process. Administered orally, Rotaplas does not replace conventional treatments for Rotavirus infection, rather it complements these treatments, resulting in significantly reduced treatment periods and substantial cost savings.

Rotaplas is yet to be registered with the Australian Pesticide and Veterinary Medicines Authority.
